Everyday billions of people are watching videos via a social media network. Video content is massive right now and it’s showing no signs of slowing down. As we have said over and over again, video is the future of digital marketing.

To give you a couple of quick examples; Facebook and Snapchat have now both surpassed 8 billion daily video views and YouTube’s 1 billion-plus users are watching hundreds of millions of hours of online video content daily. This not only shows the power of video, but it also shows a huge amount of potential for your business. One of the best things about video for any business owner is that it doesn’t really matter how big your business is, if you do it right video will work for you regardless.

Social media networks actually encourage the use of video content through their updated features. Instagram introduced 60-Second Videos & Instagram Stories, Twitter brought in Periscope and Facebook launched 360 Degree Video and Live Video streaming. YouTube, which is essentially the HUB for video content, still remains the second most popular social network in the world.

So why exactly is video content “social media heaven”?

Shareable

One of the reasons that video is so perfect for social networks is due to its shareability, video encourages social media shares. So, let’s take a look at some of the statistics for the most popular social media networks of 2017…

A Facebook video alone receives, on average, 135% more organic reach than a Facebook photo. In fact, Facebook posts with a video/image see 2.5X more shares than those without.

Native videos on Twitter drive 2.5X more replies, 2.8X more retweets and 1.9X more likes than third party players. Videos are 6X more likely to be retweeted than photos and 3X more likely than GIFs.

Snapchat users watch 10 billion videos per day and share 9000 photos per second.

YouTube reaches more 18+ year olds during prime time viewing hours than the cable television network and half of YouTube subscribers between the ages of 18 and 35 have said that they would drop whatever they were doing to watch a new video from their favourite channel.

It is also worth remembering that nearly 80% of social media time is now spent on mobile devices and that 92% of mobile viewers regularly share videos with others. Admittedly, that was a lot to take in and it can just look like a maths test gone wrong but the statistics speak for themselves.

People love videos.

ROI

Another reason why video content is “social media heaven” is because of its impressive ROI. Again, let’s take a look at some facts…

Snapchat video ads capture over 2X more visual attention than Facebook videos ads, over 1.5X more than Instagram ads and 1.3X more than YouTube ads. Snapchat video ads also deliver over 2X the lift in purchase intent than that of television, YouTube, Instagram and even Facebook video ads.

Twitter video ads are deemed to be 10% more relevant, 8% more favourable and 8% less intrusive than that of similar skippable pre-roll ads on publisher sites. In fact, video ads are nearly 2X as memorable on Twitter than skippable pre-roll ads on premium sites.

6 in 10 YouTube subscribers would follow advice on what to buy from their favourite creator over their favourite TV or movie personality.

So, what does all this mean then...

What all these facts and statistics show is ultimately the importance of social media networks when implementing video into your marketing strategies. Sure, you might have social media profiles and yes you might have video content but if you aren’t utilising them properly you and your business could be missing out. Even though the statistics can look like a lot of waffle they actually demonstrate a serious surge in social video content which, if you utilise correctly, could have a massive impact on the success of your business.
